DVD menus

Lord of the rings

what it shows

This dvd menu show the menu options in a circle which resembles the ring which features throughout the film. In the background shoes slowly changing iconic scenes from the film and in the Centre shows images from the film in more clarity. Though this is the third instalment of the film (the return of the king) the other two films in the trilogy also feature the same dvd menu which gives the unextended trilogy a continuity.

technical elements

It originally shows the words inscribed on the inside of the ring and it merges into the dvd options such as scene selection.  This effect is very simple effect but it provides an great bit of production value as you can see a more clear transformation between the real ring and the circle which then becomes the DVD option.

colours

The colours and themes are very similar to those in the film and the DVD menu directly shows pivital scenes from the film including orcs lining up outside Minis Tirith and then Theoden then lining up to attack which are two major spoiler to the film.

Drive

what it shows

Quite similar to the DVD menu above this shows scenes directly from the film without the addition of stylistic effects. It shows Ryan Gosling and Carrie Mulligan charters in the fore ground and in the background it shows glimpses form some of the chases from the film which contain no clue to the film and give away no spoilers.  When scene selection is pressed the menu just shows the scenes directly

technical elements

Not as you'd think there is very little technical elements used in this DVD menu as it just shows some parts of a car chase from the film, with no additional effects as are used in most DVD menus .

colours

The themes and music used in this are similar to the Cliff martinez soundtrack used throughout the film which sets up the audiences expatiation beofre the film has started.
